About Us
Who are we and what do we stand for?
We are a group of people coming from different backgrounds: professionals, students, journalists, physicians, teachers... We are united by a common profound love for our country and by the idea that knowledge should always lead into concrete actions, concrete steps, concrete achievements, to bring the changes we want to witness both in ourselves and in the world.
Our Aims Are
- To promote the idea of a unity beyond diversities among human beings by way of respect to the various identities and traditions, while understanding that we are all citizens of Egypt and ultimately of the world
- To encourage a broader view through the comparative study of all civilizations
- To develop the latent potentialities in the human being and to be at the service of our community
What are our fields of activity?
- Regular seminars on subjects varying from psychology to philosophy, oratory, history and study of ancient civilization cultures, under the three mottos: "Know yourself, know your surroundings, know your roots".
- Gathering, promoting and investigating all our cultural, historical and traditional heritage.
- Organizing, planning and encouraging volunteering in community service projects and events.
- Holding and developing events and courses that help physical health and physical/psychological harmony.
What does "Serafis" mean?
"Serafis" was an old and very well known symbol during the Hellenestic period of Egypt. It represented the unity of the Western and the Eastern parts of the world, embodied by the city of Alexandria, which was for several centuries the main center of enlightenment of all the region, from the columns of hercules (Today's Gibraltar) to the far borders of the Indian kingdoms.
During the Alexandrian time, tolerance towards others was an essential key for this unity. It proved that we can firmly hold on to our Ideals, while understanding that others also have the right to find their own truth.
"Serafis" was also the symbol of balance, of equilibrium, of the exact measure: not only in the external world, but also internally, within oneself, to be able to find the appropriate stability, to be moderate, to have temperance in everything we do, in everything we feel and in everything we think.
A last word ...
We believe that the human being conceals inside himself wonderful secrets and latent powers: Will, Wisdom, Intelligence. We believe in the real significance of education (to extract what we already have inside) and not in its common meaning of storing knowledge like a computer. We believe that Idealists, by serving their community, can really make a change. We believe that every person has the possibility to reach his/her highest human potential, to become more than common folk: Ladies and Knights.
